A long standing friend and a very supportive colleague.

The feeling that the world is an emptier place, now that Paul no longer lives in it, extends far beyond Australia. Here in Sweden, in my mind’s eye, I see him standing by our waterfall, gazing at the rush of water, as he did in December 2019. (We kept saying ‘Where’s Paul?’ only to find him there, time and again). I see him in an armchair in Stockholm, with a tiny Clarie (now 30), giggling as he reads a story to her. I hear him playing ‘Waltzing Matilda’ on my piano and, one day in May when not physically with us, pretending to be B1 as a young Nick answers the phone on his birthday. I feel him making my dear friend Karen deeply happy for many years and am filled with gratitude for that, and for having had so many opportunities to laugh together. Farewell, you lovely man!
