Louise Meredith ‘Lou’

Passed away at Bendigo on April 8th, 2024.

Aged 61 Years.

Dearly loved Wife of John.

Loved and devoted Mother of Anna, Oliver, and Tobias.

To all those that are friends of Lou, we would like to let you know that today she passed away due to the impact of the lung cancer that she was first diagnosed with in late January 2023. As a family we are devasted to have Lou’s life cut short. At 61 she had so much more she wanted to do and wished for so many more great moments to share with her family and friends.

Whilst our cancer experience has been tough over the last 15 months, we know that it is something that many other families face. Lou fought the fight in the way you would expect of her, with determination, attention to detail and an inquiry mindset to give herself a chance of getting the best outcome possible. Her death today isn’t that outcome.

Over the last 15 months, Lou has reflected on her situation and whilst she hoped for so much more than her 61 years, she always expressed such an appreciation for the life she has had. This appreciation included the fortune of being born into her Medhurst family and the true friends she has made along her life from childhood into adulthood.

Lou also knows that she has nurtured and given to a married life that created three adult children that she is incredibly content knowing they contribute to the world in a way that she would hope. Her greatest pleasures over the last ten years have been the inclusion to our family of Anna, Ollie and Tobias’s partners and our four grandchildren.

As a family we want to say thanks, to all who have been so supportive over the last 15 months and at other times over Lou’s life when we have had challenges. We also thank the many medical practitioners and staff that have supported us.

Anna, Ollie, Tobias and John, along with Sean, Tricia, Maddi, Piper, Jasper, Theo and Penny have been so fortunate to have Lou as our mother, wife and grandmother. Her love, devotion, persistence, determination, attention to detail, deep loyalty to friends and family, and her commitment to support others will continue to guide us in the way we continue to live our lives.

We will work through and communicate to all the details of our public recognition of Lou’s life in the coming days. We know that we can call on many if we need things to be done. Please do not send flowers to show your support. Our family wish is what Lou would have preferred as the practical, no fuss person she was. If you want to do something as a recognition of Lou, find a plant, (preferably a native) that you can plant in yours or someone else’s garden as memorial to Lou. Grab one that flowers with a splash of colour at some time across the year and provides some smell of the Australian bush which Lou loved.

In the coming days put the kettle on and have a weak black tea to drink to Lou and remember her cup that she so proudly dragged every where with her over the last few years with the picture of Piper, Jasper, Theo and Penny on. It was the keep sake that became most precious to her.

And finally, if you go past someone wearing pink glasses frames, tell them how good they look on them and that they remind you of a great women who had an important impact on many others in her 61 years.

We have also put together a playlist of Lou’s favourite songs on Spotify if you want to take a listen:
