Les Kirby (young Les) and family,

Aunty Trixie,
Sharing memories from growing up for me.
Some of the best times were family get togethers at Corinella (Kirby’s, Hamilton’s and Reynolds vs the Kings) while we played cricket (with patch) and darts, Aunty Trixie was always in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Always laughing and smiling, always looking after me because I was the youngest, just a lot of fun had by all.

Also for me spending some of my school holidays with Aunty Trixie and Uncle Eric playing cards and spending time at the beach. It was always good fun because I would be allowed to do stuff I wasn’t normally allowed to do. I was always made welcome with a hug and a kiss and the usual comment from her “hello stranger, haven’t seen you in a while”. In later life on the odd occasions that we caught up it was still the same greeting and she always took the time to ask about everyone in the family without forgetting anyone.

On her last visit to the Austin hospital the nurses would say to her “Trixie we are coming to your 100th birthday” and when they left the room Aunty Trixie would turn to me and say “cheeky buggers I don’t even know them, but you’ll come wont you?”, my reply was “I wouldn’t miss it for the world”.

Rest in peace, you’ll never be forgotten and thank you for being a special part of my life.

Love Les, Glenyss, Lauren and Leah Kirby.

Is it too late to put this for Nana?

Nana….my heart is breaking. What a privilege it was having you in our lives. You’re an amazing, strong lady and the best role model! Rest easy Nana, I know that you and Pa will be reunited once more and he’ll be asking “what took you so long?!” Forever greatful for being your great granddaughter. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts ❤️❤️❤️

Dear Nanna,

We hope with all our hearts, somehow, you’re able to hear this.

We miss you already, but we thank you for giving us all the years you possibly could, as hard as that may have been, and we understand that you needed, and were prepared to go.

We assure ourselves that youre somewhere with pa, reunited once again, looking over our lives.

Your influence on our lives is beyond words. You truly are a beautiful soul, and eternally will be. You’re inspiring to say the least. How proud you have made our family, with the graciousness in which you carried yourself, for over 100 years.

I personally thank you, for giving me not only all the childhood memories, but also for giving me the moment of seeing our son, in my great grandmother’s arms, peaceful, after you had fed him. That will forever be a very special memory for me, as well as Rachael, and I’m sure our extended family.

Naturally, we wish we could have had more time together, but we cherish the time we did have.

Eventually we will all find the end of our story, after which we will meet again, but until then, know that we truly love you, with all our hearts, and you will never leave our thoughts and prayers.

Rest easily Nanna.
